PROJECTS

PROJECTS

1. Share NM Project – to help a state-wide database become accessible for all with disabilities, by
testing their site and giving user comments and suggestions. As well as helping them in the future to
compile information and possibly request agencies we are affiliated with to share what they do with this
database.

2. Disability Awareness Fair – to bring together agencies that serve disabled in some way, and
to share our experiences or insights or whatever we choose in workshops, this will be a community
event.

3. DREAMS Club Newsletter projects – I am wanting to create a monthly newsletter, and could use
some help in both writing articles, editing articles, and finding articles or research. Otherwise if it is just
me doing most of the work, it will likely be a bi-monthly newsletter.

4. Community Affiliations Project - who should our club become affiliated with? Who has been a great
source of support for you or those you know?

5. Campus Accessibility Project – at SFCC – what accessibility issues are you aware of? What is and is not
working for you? What doors need buttons? What areas need better lighting? What accommodation
technology does SFCC need? Ask and we will pursue this with the full support of Student Government
Association members and many SGA Representatives. We are also going to be running a full campaign
at SFCC to petition for a fully accessible campus. This means each door leading outside has a button,
each restroom is accessible, each emergency exit is accessible and safe, each area of the college is well
lit at night, and that resources on campus can be enjoyed by all students. The form for others to sign
is on Goggle Drive titled "Accessibility Petition at SFCC". Please print this and have your classmates,
faculty, staff, etc that you know who support this project sign it. It will be submitted with our letter.

6. Accessibility Project in Santa Fe – What businesses are accessible in Santa Fe? Who should we give
awards to in May?

7. Instructors Awards Project – What instructors always accommodate us? This list so far is on Google
Drive, you can contest any instructor if you or someone you know had a bad experience. We want to
identify the best of the best at SFCC! They will receive recognition in our newsletter and be awarded
certificates of excellence from us.

8. Community Theatre Project – some of us DREAMS Club members are interested in starting a Theatre
made up of disabled members of our club and community of Santa Fe. There are a few examples, such
as Phamaly of Denver Colorado where community theatre has helped build the community, awareness
of disability, positive images of those with disabilities, and help with developing skills, among many
things.

9. Welcome Week Project – We have an opportunity to do something as a club during the first week of
classes at SFCC. We can have an info table, we can give out snacks, we can do a mini awareness event,
really there is no limit as to what we can do. Your thoughts would be great, if nothing else we will have
a table with info about the DREAMS club, and an opportunity for people to join or share knowledge in
person.

10. Faculty, Student, and Staff Awareness Project – Get wheelchairs, blindfolds, and other assistive
devices and help train our Administration, Staff, and other students to become aware of the effect of
certain disabilities. One idea was to create a scavenger hunt, in places that would build awareness of
the need for a more accessible campus, possibly with an award of some sort.

11. Your Project Idea here!! Do you have an idea for something we could do to create positive changes
or build awareness of something that is needed at school or in the community?? There is never a wrong
idea!

12. Public Schools Project - How can we connect to public schools across NM to promote awareness,
etiquette, respect, leadership, and understanding for disabled peers and people in the community.

I would like to know what you are interested in doing or supporting. Again you will receive support
through the entire process if you would like do anything in the above list, whatever you choose to do.
And sharing your ideas for any project IS valued participation!
